500-plus watercraft set for show

The final big outdoor show of the winter season, the Tacoma Dome Boat Show, opens its four-day run March 27.

Dealers from across the Northwest will have more than 500 watercraft on display.

New this year is the “priced-to-sell” pre-owned boat display, featuring used boats handpicked by participating dealers to sell at the show.

Boats on display: Day Island Boatworks of Tacoma will feature the Larson’s new 37-foot day cruiser that is powered by the new Volvo IPS drive engine. Lake Union Sea Ray of Fife will have Boston Whaler’s largest model, the new 345 Conquest, on display. The 34-footer is designed as both a luxury cruiser and a serious fishing boat and features triple 250 HP Mercury Verado engines.
The third-largest Honda marine dealership in the nation, King Salmon Marine Inc. of Tacoma, will feature the latest crossover family fishing boat, the new 21-foot Arima Explorer Series. A Northwest builder, Arima introduces fishing cruisers with an extended hardtop enclosure, stand-up head, sink and dinette.

King Salmon will also introduce Northwest Jet Boats’ new 26-foot Offshore. This aluminum jet boat with a 9-foot beam, big cabin, huge fish lockers and twin engines is geared for tuna fishing off the Washington and Oregon coasts. Anderson classifies this fishing cruiser, “It’s high end, at the top of the food chain!”

Beyond boats: The active watersports crowd will be able to see a full range of attractive toys at the show. Tacoma Motor Sports plans to exhibit Sea-Doo’s new, high-performance models, including the RXP-X (double) and RXT-X (triple) personal watercraft. Both are equipped with 1,600 cc engines and 225 horsepower. Tacoma Motor Sports will also display the Yamaha FX-SHO with electric cruise control. It is the fastest-accelerating PWC in the industry with a 1,900 cc engine.

Pack it in: Alki Beach Boats will be displaying Walker Bay Boat’s Airis inflatable kayaks. They measure 8 to 11 feet long. Sold in a backpack carrier, sturdy Airis kayaks weigh up to 20 pounds.
Learning Lab: Making its first appearance in the Northwest will be the 48-foot semitrailer housing the Crownline Mobile Learning Lab.
